Where does Bills' James Cook rank among NFL running backs in 2026?

TheBuffalo Billsare known for quarterback Josh Allen but running back James Cook is up there for the team, too.

USA TODAY

Cook signed afour-year extensionlast offseason worth $48 million. That average of his contract makes him tied as the running back with the 11th highest salary in the NFL heading into 2026.

Does Cook outrank that pay status? According to SleeperNFL, the answer is yes.

However, Bills Mafia might think he deserves to be higher than the ranking.

Cook landed in the No. 8 overall spot in the outlet's running back list:

A big reason for thinking Cook is overlooked is his 1,621 rushing yards last season. That led the NFL in 2025, so thinking of a rank higher than eighth would be fair.

But with the quarterback league the NFL is, it simply is Allen's shine keeping Cook that low. Even so, Buffalo does not take Cook for granted.

Bills Wirewill continue to provide updates throughout the 2026 offseason.

One-sentence wish for the Washington Commanders' 2026 season

Ahead of the 2025 season, theWashington Commandershad an aura of hope around the organization for the first time in a long time. After making it to the NFC Championship game in 2024, the team (and the league) had high expectations for then-second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels.

USA TODAY

Unfortunately, that hope was short-lived. In their Week 2 matchup against theGreen Bay Packers, the Commanders lost edge rusher Deatrich Wise Jr. and running back Austin Ekeler for the remainder of the season. Jayden Daniels injured his knee and battled injuries for the remainder of the season, and in Week 9 against theSeattle Seahawks, he sustained an injury that would keep him on the sidelines even longer. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin, for the first time in his NFL career, missed significant time with an injury.

In that Week 9 game vs. Seattle, the Commanders also lost Marshon Lattimore and Luke McCaffrey, which was essentially the proverbial nail in the coffin for the 2025 season.

We're past all of that now, though, and general manager Adam Peters has made some changes and upgrades to the roster while Dan Quinn made some coaching staff adjustments. There is still an aura of hope around this team, although in 2026 it's closer to cautious optimism than actual hope. Bleacher Report recently named aone-sentence dreamfor every NFL team, and the Commanders got a two-parter:

Washington Commanders:Jayden Daniels recaptures the magic from his rookie season and stays healthy, while a new-look defense boosted by rookie Sonny Styles goes from liability to asset in a deep playoff run.

Technically, it's still one sentence, but the author managed to combine both offense and defense into the Commanders' wish.

Daniels is ready to recapture the magic he made in 2024. He could have done it last year had he been healthy, but injuries were a problem. So, he has to keep his positive mentality and ability to overcome adversity, but he also needs to stay healthy. Without him on the field, the offense simply isn't the same.

Defensively, there's no question that the new-look defense becomes an asset. Sonny Styles definitely gave the defense a boost, but he's not alone out there. The Commanders added several other pieces that are integral to their success, and they all have to do their part to make it happen.

Warriors mock draft roundup: Golden State eying Mexican prospect

Basketball experts are pinning down their mock selections over a month away from the 2026 NBA Draft on June 23-24.

USA TODAY

This draft class anticipates having among the best crop of talent to enter the league with players such as AJ Dybantsa, Cameron Boozer, Caleb Wilson and Darryn Peterson.

TheGolden State Warriorshave to decide whether to will draft a prospect or trade their No. 11 pick.

Despite being heavy buyers in the trade market, the consensus is that Golden State will retain their pick and lean into scouting for the right piece. Head coach Steve Kerr looks forward to that selection and believes developing that pick will be a "huge factor" in their 2026-27 season.

"I think we're in a different place now. Right, there's no question. And I've talked to Mike (Dunleavy, the Warriors GM), I mean, I don't know the draft, but he feels really strongly that we're going to get a good player. It could be a 19 year old, it could be someone older,"Kerr told reporters.

The Warriors have been linked to a number of players, such as Michigan forward Yaxel Lendeborg, Arizona guard Brayden Burries and Michigan center Aday Mara.

USA TODAY Sports' Bryan Kalbroskypredicts Karim López going to the Warriors as the first-ever Mexican-born NBA draft selection. Kalbrosky described Lopez as "physically gifted, athletic, and universally seen as the top prospect from this class currently playing overseas."

"He exploded for 32 points (11-of-13 FG) with eight rebounds, two blocks and one steal against Melbourne on Jan. 30. Despite his age, he played a huge role for his team defensively for a team that won the NBL Ignite Cup. López measured well, weighing just shy of 222 pounds and 38-inch max vertical," Kalbrosky wrote.

Whoever is brought in, Kerr emphasized the Warriors' commitment to that players' development.

"It's obvious where we are with the injuries toMoses (Moody) andJimmy (Butler), you look at our depth on the wings, that guy has to play, and he's got to earn it, you know, but we're committed to absolutely, you know, the development of our young players," Kerr said. "(We're) trying to do this thing in a way that allows for success down the road. Down the road meaning the end of next season and beyond, and we're excited about that."

Here are mock draft predictions from sports experts, specifically for theGolden State Warriors:

Penn State miss out on former O-line commit

While theNittany LionslostLayton Von Brandtearlier in the recruiting cycle and were not the favorites to land him again, many expected him to sign with theNotre Dame Fighting Irish. However, after moving up his commitment date to today, he went a highly unexpected route. Instead of following several other four star O-linemen to South Bend, Von Brandt committed to theAuburn Tigers. While Penn State will be disappointed that he did not stick with his early intentions, it somewhat feels like a win after Penn State lost out on many players to theFighting Irishon the recruiting trail.

USA TODAY

For now, this leaves theNittany Lionswithout a four star lineman amongst their class, but still enough talent at the position to get by. With local recruits in David Tarawallie and Ryan Robbins, Campbell could have two bookend tackles of the future. They also have some interior talent with Jon Sassic and Owen Reilly. However, Notre Dame being spurned is the bigger takeaway as they looked to continue to stockpile at the position. Auburn's win is perhaps a testament to their persistence in recruiting him and both Penn State and Notre Dame landing other commits at the position, thus losing focus on Von Brandt.

Now all eyes will be on another prospect, this time three star Lucas Rhoa, who locked down an official visit. For now, the sting of losing Von Brandt hurts just a little less than potentially expected.

USA TODAY report shows how conference realignment crushed the Pac-12

It was obviously a disaster for the Pac-12 Conference that the league splintered and watched USC leave. The Trojans left for the Big Ten, as did UCLA, Oregon and Washington from the West Coast. The Arizona schools left for the Big 12. So did Utah and Colorado. Cal and Stanford left for the ACC.Now USA TODAY Sports has detailson the extent to which the Pac-12's collapse crushed conference revenue.

USA TODAY

"The numbers in it are jarring but also a reminder that this is a league that is building back up soon withseven incoming full members in 2026. The tax return was obtained from the league by USA TODAY Sports for fiscal year 2025, which runs from July 2024 through June 2025, a year in which Oregon State and Washington State were the Pac-12’s only members. Here is what it shows:

"Revenue collapsed from $566.6 million in fiscal 2024 to $111.5 million in fiscal 2025. This is primarily because there was a drastic reduction in television companies wanting to pay for their games. The league’s television rights fees went down to $3 million from $381 million in the previous fiscal year, when the Pac-12 still had 12 members.  Oregon State and Washington State football games in 2024 were televised byThe CW Network and Fox Sports. The depleted revenue stream also led to a deficit of $21.7 million after $133.2 million in expenses.

“'FY25 is the first of two build-up years ahead of the Pac-12’s launch as a new conference beginning with the 2026-27 season,' the league said in a news release May 15. That’s when the league will add Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Texas State and Utah State."

The Pac-12 could have played its cards differently ... but it didn't. The costs can now be seen in full.
