Cobb County firefighters revealed on social media on Oct. 8 that they helped an overwhelmed veterinary hospital deliver 15 rescue puppies
The crew, who had received pet CPR training from the clinic the week before, helped with the delivery by removing the pups’ amniotic sacs, clearing their airways and delivering medication

Georgia firefighters don’t just save lives — they help bring new ones into the world, too.
The Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) in Cobb County, Ga., announced in a Thursday, Oct. 8, social media post that they helped emergency and urgent care veterinary hospital VEG ER for Pets deliver 15 puppies after the hospital became overwhelmed.
“We had a rescue dog we were about to get her fixed, and then we realized she was pregnant,” a VEG ER for Pets veterinarian said in an Instagram video CCFES shared. “[We were] thinking we were gonna have like five or six pups. We brought them down to the emergency [room] ... and they’re like, ‘There’s 15.’ ”

“Initially, we were all very excited,” added Dr. Lauren Savoy, with VEG ER for Pets, “and then we kind of looked around and thought, ‘Oh my gosh, there’s only like five of us here.’”
Savoy said she started making calls, including one to the fire station, and asked the firefighters if they would “be able to take some time off to be able to come join us and get some puppies out.”
The CCFES noted that the week before, firefighters received pet CPR training from veterinarians at the clinic, so they were prepared and knew generally what to do.
“As the puppies were born, our firefighters helped by removing their amniotic sacs, clearing their airways, delivering any necessary drugs, and warming them up,” the CCFES wrote on Facebook. “Without their help, many of the puppies wouldn’t have made it.”
The firefighters saw the results of their hard work when they reunited with the puppies weeks later. One CCFES crew member, an engineer named Newman, even adopted one of the puppies for his daughter, the fire team said.

The department also shared photos of the little dogs spending quality time with their firefighter heroes.
In one photo, three firefighters who helped deliver the pups posed with half a dozen of them in front of a firetruck. Each grinned widely as they held the pups.

The CCFES also shared photos of one pup with a darker coat and a white underside posing on a firetruck. Another picture showed a brown-and-black puppy from the litter cuddling into one firefighter while another rested in a different firefighter’s arms.
“While this is certainly an atypical incident for the fire department, we welcomed the opportunity to give back to the community,” CCFES wrote in the Facebook post about the incident.
In the Instagram video, Newman added, “It was such a unique opportunity that we got to be a part of, and we want to keep it going.”
